DRAFT PRESS RELEASE FOR RURAL AWARENESS PGME COMBINED WITH SPL MEDICAL CAMP AT GAMBHIR BRAHMNA ON 10 MAR 07




Indian Army has been progressively working tirelessly towards improving the living standards of the people residing in border areas by means of alleviating the lack of basic infrastructure in conjunction with the civ adm.
Apart from this, the Army has also been contributing overwhelmingly towards providing medical aid to the locals by means of regular medical camps. The aim of these camps is to provide regular medical check-up, treatment and medicines to the locals of those far flung areas.
With this as the backdrop the Army in a joint venture with the civ adm has achieved another milestone by conducting a "Rural Awareness Pgme Combined with Special Medical Camp" as part of OP SADBHAVANA Project at Gambhir Brahmana village in Rajouri Distt. In this pgme representatives of various civ depts were invited to put up their stalls to educate the locals on the schemes and facilities which can be made available to the rural populace.
In this Rural Awareness Pgme representatives of various depts of civ adm were invited. The Forest Dept educated the locals about the consequences of cutting trees without permission and the procedure to be followed to seek permission, the Animal Husbandry Dept provided free Medical check-up of cattle and also educated the villagers on how to increase the quantity of milk by improving the quality of fodder through resources means readily available, Handicraft Dept educated the villagers on various handicraft projects which they can undertake depending upon their area of interest as part of self help scheme, Horticulture Dept educated the locals about the various fruit bearing plants which are best suited to the local environment and about the various plants of medicine value, Manager SBI and PNB educated the villagers about the various loan which can be made available to them with emphasis on loan for seeds and cattle, Food and Supply Dept solved the various queries of the villagers, Manager LIC of India enlightened the gathering on the various insurance schemes in which the villagers can invest their money and avail benefits.
In addition to the Rural Awareness Pgme a special medical camp was also organized. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Health and Family Welfare was also invited. An eye specialist, a gynecologist and an ENT specialist were also arranged for the benefit of the local villagers for whom going to Rajouri for treatment is a thought beyond imagination. The event commenced with an inaugural speech by Cdr 120 Inf Bde followed by speech by the spl guest Deputy Collector of Rajouri and interaction with local villagers by the various civ adm depts. These dedicated efforts of the Army for the upliftment of the locals residing in the border areas speaks volume of the effort put in by the Army. The wholehearted support extended by the civ adm and enormous participation by the local villagers had to be seen to be believed. The overall attendance of the camp was approx 500 which included approx 100 children. In addition 37 cattle were also given free treatment.
Indian Army has left no stone unturned towards helping the locals and this camp was another feather added in its cap. This Rural Awareness Pgme combined with Spl Medical Camp proved to be a grand success and was appreciated by the local populace.
